Article – Influence and persuasion
Persuasion and influence in healthcare leadership can sometimes be underestimated, yet they are pivotal for professionals aiming to advance in their careers. Without understanding the different characteristics of each and how these skills can be used, effecting change in the workplace will be more challenging.
While there is a distinction between influence and persuasion, it’s critical to understand how you can use them to enhance your career effectiveness and leadership impact.

Many also took up our offer to access additional resources to support their ongoing development.
And remember – our MIGA partnership includes member benefits for Standout Medical Careers services.

From May, Standout Medical Careers will be featured in the Australian Health & Aged Care resource guide, monthly newsletter and on their website. If you’re an AHAC subscriber, keep an eye out for the latest information on our services.
From Mt Gambier to Melbourne
Earlier this month I was delighted to return to Mt Gambier to facilitate a series fo workshops for a range of team members within the Limestone Coast Regional Training Hub. The collaboration between Flinders University and Mt Gambier Hospital brought together medical students, doctors, medical workforce and education and executive staff to reflect on career-related skills.
Thank you to the team led by Dr Carrie McKenzie who worked logistical wonders and to all of the participants who gave up evenings and a Saturday to share experiences, contribute ideas and build new and existing relationships across this dedicated regional team.
From Mt Gambier it was on to Melbourne to meet with clients, connections (with an unexpected viewing of a Nobel Prize Gold Medal!!) and attend the 2-day Festival of Digital Health.
Watch this space for our next article focusing on highlights from the conference.
Queensland
En route to Cairns for the AMAQ JDC, I will be returning to Brisbane for the fourth time this year to present at the Queensland Children’s Hospital. Registrars and Fellows will be joining to discuss career planning, CV development and interview preparation.
If you would like to catch up while I am in Brisbane or Cairns, please get in touch.
AMAQ JDC June Cairns (7-10th June)
I will be supporting the AMAQ Junior Doctor Conference this year on 8 June and joining the day trip out to reef planned for 9 June.
This conference encourages junior doctors and medical students to engage and be inspired. It’s aimed at Interns, Doctors in Training, and Medical Students.
I will have a stall and be available to answer questions from attendees on anything career related.
This one-day event is essential if you’re keen to network, discover and experience what tropical north Queensland has to offer for professional and lifestyle opportunities.
Delegate then have the option to visit the Outer Great Barrier Reef. There will be activities for both swimmers and non-swimmers.
